HITACHI SAID it will develop a system that monitors the state of "interpersonal communication" among its workers. Sensor-equipped name tags will detect when conversations take place and note the participants. A quick glance at a graph can show which persons and groups are not communicating enough during the course of work, according to Hitachi.

This is something a little bit scary. However, I must confess that I am myself conducting some research, in the context of the project AtGentive, in which we are monitoring people activities. In this work, we are investigating the concept of social attention, and in particular we are trying to figure out how much attention people are dedicating to interacting with others. For instance in the following posting, one my collegue vizualise the flow of email over time.
